Cleaning floors: THE WORST CHORE
Pretty much every house Matt and I have lived in since we got married has been 90% tile or hard floors which I LOVE! Way easier to maintain than carpet and you don’t have to worry as much about those high traffic areas showing wear.
But, and this is a big BUT, I always hated trying to keep them clean.
First you have to go over the entire floor with a broom and attempt to get all the dirt, lint, and dog fur into a dustpan and then the trash. In case you don’t have a dog there is just no way to get it all with a broom. And It’s so wispy half of what you did manage to sweep up is going to blow away while you walk the dustpan over to the garbage can.
Then you have to go over the entire floor AGAIN with a mop. Suddenly you realize you’re the worlds worst sweeper because all you’re really doing is pushing visible bits of dirt and dog hair around.
Halfway through the job the mop water is black and you begin to wonder what’s the point.
Then you have to somehow still live in your house with a toddler and a dog with a sopping wet floor and there’s nothing you can do but lock yourself in the back bedroom and wait FOREVER for it to dry.
Its the worst chore! I’d choose to clean toilets before I’d pick the floor. And because of how miserable the chore is… our floors didn’t get mopped all that often. Gross!
When we moved-in with my in-laws one of the ways I helped out was cleaning, especially the floors. The problem? Their house is a lot bigger than the tiny apartments we’d been living in and all but the bedrooms are tile.
SO MUCH TILE FLOOR!
Everything I hated about floor cleaning x 10!
Surely there had to be a better way, this is the 21st century! Surely someone has found a way to make this chore less awful.
clean your floors the Fast, easy, & modern way
So I started researching and it turns out there are a few wet/dry mop/vacuum combos out there. Hallelujah!
I think what sold me on this model over the others was the included cleaning tray since I was worried about how difficult it might be to maintain a machine like this. Bissell makes it so easy!
By the way, just in case you’re wondering. This is post is not sponsored by Bissell. They have no idea I exist or that I’m a major fan of their product. I just love it that much and think everyone with hard floors should own this product!
how it works
After using this wet/dry mop for 4 months using it once or twice a week I have absolutely no complaints!
No sweeping required! Simply fill the tank with water and cleaner to the appropriate lines and go. If that isn’t the fast, easy & modern way to get clean floors I don’t know what is. This baby picks it all up! I think the suction may even be better than my regular vacuum.
It easily removes standard floor grime and, just like with any mop, the more stuck on stuff only requires a few passes. I love watching the spots and stains made by 2 toddlers, 4 adults, and a dog simply disappear with very little effort on my part.
In their promo videos they show dramatic toddler spills, like spaghetti, disappear with this mop, noodles and all. Though I haven’t tried it out with spaghetti we have had some colossal spills like juice, cereal, ice cream, etc. In these moments it’s so nice to just whip out my Bissell and get rid of the whole mess, no more stacks of paper towels or sticky residue.
One of the things I love about this mop is how dry it leaves the floor after cleaning, no more locking the family in a back bedroom while the floor dries. It does leave behind a little water, enough for little toddler feet to slip if they’re following right after me, but it will dry within 3-5 minutes. This also makes it super convenient to clean the floor in sections and move things out of my way as I go.
Full disclosure, I have no used the carpet cleaning feature of this wet/dry vacuum. That’s not why I got it. But seriously, for the convenient and quick floor cleaning power you NEED this wet/dry vacuum/mop combo.
Cleaning the Bissell Wet/Dry Vacuum
As I mentioned, one of the things that sold me on the Bissell Crosswave was how easy it looked to clean and I wasn’t disappointed.
With the included cleaning tray you can quickly and efficiently clean the mop brush and it comes out almost completely dry. I actually recommend not rinsing the brush with the rest of the components because it will take forever to dry.
The window that covers the brush pops out and can be rinsed along with every other part of the Crosswave that gets icky. Simply pop everything out, pull the pet hair strainer and throw away the big stuff, then rinse everything else and set out to dry.
I would suggest that unless you have time to clean your Crosswave after you’ve finished mopping you should probably wait until you do. Ours still looks and functions like new and that’s because I never let the icky sit in the tank for any amount of time.
So, if cleaning your hard floors is one of your least favorite chores, I definitely recommend the Bissell Crosswave Pet Pro for fast, easy, and clean floors done the modern way. While I’m not a spokesperson for Bissell I couldn’t help but share my #1 hard floor cleaning hack to help you finish the chores faster so you can get back to the things you love… which I’m guessing is not cleaning floors.
